AIDS Care Group

We’re looking for a summer intern to help launch our “Sustenance Initiative”.

Here’s what you could do:

* Contact colleges and universities in the Delaware Valley and create relationships with existing student organizations to gain their time, energy and support for programs and fundraisers throughout the year and continuing into the future.
* Work with the AIDS Care Group Sustenance Director to reach out to local businesses for support for a variety of activities and events
designed to entertain and uplift and, at the same time, raise sustenance funds, e.g., Art and Jazz events, dining out for AIDS evenings, run/walk
activities, etc.
* Create a database of contacts and archive the outcomes of all contacts made, leads for additional contacts and “profiles” for potential supporters.
* Implement “The Delaware Valley Cares” Campaign designed to blanket the region with newsletters and information about the AIDS Care Group sustenance activities and events to ensure high attendance and participation.
* Under the direction of the Sustenance Director, create and launch a quarterly newsletter, informational brochures and drive interest and “hits” to the website.
* Assist the Web Master with website content enhancements to increase online contributions.
* Establish timelines and schedules for the 2007-2008 timeframe for activities and events.
* Coordinate Open House events and local speaking engagements for AIDS Care Group staff, volunteers and Board of Director members.

With the weather fully cooperating, staff of the AIDS Care Group hosted their 9th annual Memorial Day barbeque for their clients on May 24, 2007.

Thirty staff members served over 100 clients and many colleagues in the yard of the agency’s principal medical office in Chester. Over 250 pounds of hamburgers, chicken, ribs, and franks were consumed. There were plenty of salads, dressing, and deserts including ice cream and sorbet courtesy of “Michael’s Ice Cream”.

Board member Vivian Gray was on hand to help serve and noted, “The barbecue was a success as usual and the food was great (evidenced by the fact that I ate too much!)”.

As in all prior years, there was music and dancing. Clients come to have a good time, talk about the weather, and what-ever. Other providers in attendance included case managers and housing counselors from Family and Community Services of Delaware County and Catholic Social Services; and staff from the Ralph Moses House. Pharmacists from Burman’s Pharmacy were also on-hand.

We thank all of the participants in the planning, our consumers, and our colleagues for making this one of our best picnics ever!
